Walsall's League Two play-off hopes suffered a major blow as the 10-man Saddlers lost 3-1 at home to Notts County.

Macaulay Langstaff's 26th league goal this season and Aaron Nemane's stunner put County in control and although Mo Faal pulled one back despite Brandon Comley's red card, Sam Austin sealed the three points for the visitors.

County led in the second minute, when Langstaff was given time to control and slot home Alassana Jatta's pullback.

After Walsall's Josh Gordon had an apparent equaliser ruled out for offside, County doubled their lead in the 28th minute as Nemane beat three men before lashing home from 15 yards.

Half-time Walsall sub Faal headed against the post within a minute of coming on but it looked game over for the hosts when Comley received a second booking for needlessly tripping Dan Crowley.

However, Walsall were the better side with 10 men and Kyle Cameron cleared off the line from Douglas James-Taylor before Faal swept home Liam Gordon's pass in the 68th minute.

But just a minute later Austin's shot crept in despite goalkeeper Owen Evans getting two hands to it, to leave Walsall three points off seventh.

Congrats to Notts from a Wrexham fan. It was a tough season for you, but you stayed in the EFL and seem to be building momentum for next year. Hope you go up next season!

Brilliant win,but this game could have finished 5-5!
Walsall played better with 10 men!?!?
Nemane's goal was class.
The lads worked hard and it was a great watch.
Crowley is wicked and that ball sticks to right foot like glue.. twisting & turning drives opponents mad who then resort to kicking him!
Too late for the play offs ,but I'll take mid-table.
Sort out our defence and next year could be ok

Great win and and performances are gradually improving but I’m still unsure of SM but prepared to give him the benefit, super start and Nemane goal was quality,fantastic away following yet again as there has been all seas,consolidation was the aim at the start of the season so mission accomplished, hopefully we will go for it next season with some quality additions in defence and in goal. First half Walsall were absolutely awful.
The officials were very poor but that takes nothing away from county who played a lovely passing game.
After we went down to 10 men oddly enough we improved but it was too little too late and county fully deserved it. We are not good enough this season but we are building for the future.

Another good performance and deserved win if only we didn’t collapse after the new year. Doncaster being 8th shows just how poor this league is if only we had a defence. Roll on next season

Notts deserved the win but too many uncomfortable moments, particularly when Walsall were down to 10 men.

It's no coincidence that since Evans has come back in, the defence looks vulnerable and looking like they've never played together. I think we were a tad unlucky today though, County took their chances and we didn't.

Nobody seems to want the last play off place but I've no doubt if we win against Swindon, the others around us will win aswell !

Walsall need to forget the play-offs (they are not good enough) and start planning for next season NOW. Otherwise it will be the same old, same old Saddlers. Do the owners realise this?

Do you really think that any owner or owners wait until the final game before preparing for next season. Because it isn't plastered all over social media, doesn't mean that some transfers & contracts etc have already been discussed.

the state of the officails today was horrendous tbe linesman was never up with play all game .

walsall were better team but how do you score goals with a proven goalscorer on the bench .. 3 cup finals now
